This is gonna be a shorter heir poll than previous ones – mostly it doesn’t have as many pictures, just a couple to remind you what your heir candidates look like. This generation only has two heir candidates (same as we had in Generation 1, the only generation where the heir poll ended in a tie, so I’m hoping that doesn’t happen this time).
Our first heir candidate is Flora Doe, the daughter of Felix Doe and Marissa Carter (whose name I almost forgot writing this, sorry Marissa).
Flora is a Perfectionist who Loves the Outdoors. She completed her childhood aspiration, Whiz Kid, and got the corresponding reward trait, Mentally Gifted. She has also completed her teenage aspiration, Goal Oriented, and received the Highflier reward trait. Her adult aspiration hasn’t been decided yet, but it’ll probably be Freelance Botanist.
Plot recap:
We met Flora in the very first chapter of Generation 4, where she was a toddler who didn’t get enough attention from her parents. This trend continued, as her mother Marissa left before Flora’s child birthday, and her father Felix left not long after, leaving her with Willow. Flora becomes a very well-behaved and high-achieving child, and after they move to Moonwood Mill, she makes friends with some other girls in her class, Elsa Bjergsen and Nanami Ito, who are just as driven as she is. When she becomes a teenager, she meets Wren Grove, a boy who she can be vulnerable with. They start dating, but she hides their relationship from Elsa and Nanami, who don’t approve and are always trying to set her up with someone else. While at a bonfire party with Wren, Flora catches Nanami hooking up with Elsa’s boyfriend, Max Villareal. Nanami threatens Flora with her own secret (her relationship with Wren) to keep Flora from telling Elsa. The secrecy puts strain on the friendship between the three, and Flora becomes closer to Wren, sharing her career and family dreams with him. Eventually, she comes clean to Elsa and Nanami, ending their friendship. She goes to prom with Wren, and after prom, they exchange promise rings in the park where they first got together, ready to move forward with their lives together.
What’s next for her?
Flora has a detailed life plan: get a biology degree, marry Wren, become a botanist, and have two or three kids after she reaches an acceptable level of her career.
What am I willing to tell you about her rolls?
Family Structure – Flora plans to live with Wren
Number of Children – Flora wants two or three
Primary Career – Gardener (Botanist)
Secondary Career – Wren doesn’t have any solid career plans, but he wants to be a stay-at-home dad once they have kids, so he won’t work outside the home
Generational Goal – No clues as of yet
Miscellaneous Fun – Going Green
The second candidate for heir is Skye Doe, daughter of Willow Doe and Conor Ainsley.
Skye is adventurous and outgoing. She completed her childhood aspiration, Mind and Body, and received the Headstrong reward trait. She is still only about a week into her teen life stage, so her teen aspiration (Goal Oriented like Flora) hasn’t been completed yet. Her adult aspiration is still undecided, but it’ll probably be Nerd Brain.
Plot Recap:
We meet Skye as a very cute baby who was the catalyst for the move to Moonwood Mill. Once she becomes a child, she meets Amos Howell through Willow’s job working for the Wildfang Pack, and they become friends. At the same time, she spends time with her father, who gets mad at her after she breaks one of his artifacts (he’s an archaeologist). He treats Anna Volkov, a young girl who lives in the Moonwood Collective with him, much better because she actually really likes archaeology. Skye becomes jealous of Anna and is driven to be outperform her at school, which Amos doesn’t understand. When they become teenagers, Skye joins the computer club and pursues Michael Delgato, who Anna has a crush on. She fights with Amos over this decision, and they stop talking. Skye and Michael start dating, and it’s going well until a full moon, when Skye shifts into a werewolf for the first time in front of Michael, terrifying him. Michael breaks up with her over text and Willow comforts her. Afterwards, she goes to Amos, apologizes for being so obsessed with getting her father’s attention, and confesses to him. Amos reciprocates her feelings and they kiss.
What’s next for her?
Skye still has a while before she ages up, but basically: she’s dating Amos, she’s planning to join his pack (the Wildfangs), and she wants to be a computer engineer. She’s not as much of a long-term planner as Flora, but that’s her current plan for the moment.
What am I willing to tell you about her rolls?
Family Structure: Skye is moving in with Amos and his pack for now… that might change in the future
Number of Children: No clues as of yet
Primary Income: Computer Engineer
Secondary Income: No clues as of yet
Generational Goal: Themed Display
Miscellaneous Fun: No clues as of yet
Finally, here’s a glimpse of the two heir candidates in makeovers more in line with their adult selves:
Personally, I think this generation suffered somewhat from the transition from Sims 3 to Sims 4 halfway through, and I’m really sorry if you felt that way too. I’ve tried to keep the writing quality high, but I don’t feel entirely satisfied in this generation, sadly. I’m planning on putting a lot more effort into this next generation, so I want to devote more time to the actual planning. As such, this poll will be open until 11:59 pm my time (EST or UTC-5) on September 27, giving you guys two and a half weeks to catch up and vote, and me two and a half weeks to plan the next generation. Now vote in the poll!
These polls are always long, but this one is very long, mostly due to the number of children we have to get through. Luckily (or unluckily, depending on how you look at it), none of them rolled five children, so we won’t have to deal with all of this next generation. I’ve also added a brief section focused on genetics, since this is really the first generation that has any genetic diversity whatsoever.
We have five heir candidates today.
First born is Jonah Doe, the son of Madeline and Beckett Doe.
Jonah is a clone of his father, Beckett, with throwback coloring from his grandfather, Dylan. Basically, he looks a lot like Alaric, but with Tara’s eye shape and Dylan’s nose rather than the other way around.
Jonah is:
Absent-Minded
Genius
Neurotic
Brooding
Lifetime Wish: World Renowned Surgeon
If he becomes heir, his story will continue right where it left off in chapter 20, as he is about to become a young adult.
Plot recap: We first met Jonah as a cute toddler who inspired feelings of guilt in his mother, Madeline, over her affair with her brother-in-law, Alaric. After Madeline leaves Jonah’s father, Beckett, for Alaric, Jonah goes with them after Beckett assumes that Alaric fathered Jonah (that’s a complicated sentence). Jonah is unclear on the details of all of this, only knowing that he went with his mother because his father didn’t want to take him. He wasn’t thrilled about moving to Midnight Hollow (he’s the only one of the kids who remembers Sunset Valley, for the record), thinking that it seemed like something out of a horror movie. This is our first glimpse of his deep-seated paranoia. However, he changes his mind after meeting Jenny Doe, a sweet girl with a tendency to panic. They begin dating, and she becomes his outlet for everything at home. After Jenny’s father dies, Jonah has trouble comforting her, and she lashes out at him. After she asks him if he’s sure Alaric isn’t his father, Jonah breaks down and begs her not to leave him like everyone else has. He then confronts Alaric. Alaric confirms that while he isn’t Jonah’s father, everyone has assumed that he was since Jonah was born and that under different circumstances, he could have been. Jonah is troubled by this information and dives deeper into his relationship with Jenny, leaving them unhealthily codependent. Finally, he asks her to marry him before they go off to college.
What’s next for him? Jonah plans to go to university, get a degree in Science & Medicine, and come back home to become a surgeon. He wants to have Jenny by his side the whole way through. Everything else is negotiable, but not that.
What am I willing to tell you about his rolls?
Family Structure – Jonah wants to live with Jenny, and no one else.
Number of Children – No clues as of yet
Primary Career – Medical
Secondary Career – No clues as of yet
Generational Goal – Perfect Children
Miscellaneous Fun – No clues as of yet
The second heir candidate is Amanda Doe, the oldest child of this generation’s actual “ruling couple” (for lack of a better phrase), Madeline and Alaric Doe.
Amanda looks a lot like Madeline, but she has Alaric’s eyes and blonde hair that’s a throwback to her grandfather on Madeline’s side, Geoffrey Landgraab.
Amanda is:
Loner
Light Sleeper
Bookworm
Perceptive
Lifetime Wish: Undecided, but probably Professional Author
If she becomes heir, there will be a slight time skip, but nothing significant will be missed in the story.
Plot recap: Amanda came into the story as a toddler who was very attached to a peculiar doll, which she called Max. As she got older, she began talking to an imaginary friend named Maxwell. When she kept talking to him, Amanda was sent to a therapist, who recommended that Amanda collect her thoughts in a journal. While she didn’t appreciate the therapist, Amanda did learn that she loved writing, and used her journal to record her turbulent life. Her imaginary friend turned out to be a fairy, who Amanda could see because she was a rare Fae-Seer, a human who can see through fairy glamours. This ability meant that the fairy king wanted her to use to see through other fairies glamours, and that fairy law said she already belonged to him. Maxwell, who had been cursed by the king long ago for being too soft on humans, had originally intended to train Amanda and bring her to court in order to win back the king’s favor, but grew to care for her as a person and changed his mind. Instead, he wanted to protect Amanda from the king and escape from the fairy court’s jurisdiction. After a couple of strategies fail, Maxwell reveals that the only way to fulfill both goals is for Amanda to say his true name and turn him human. Amanda refused, not wanting to be responsible for the loss of his immortality. After talking things out with her sister Serena, however, Amanda eventually acquiesced and spoke Maxwell’s true name. Whether this strategy works remains to be seen…
What’s next for her? Amanda plans to live with the newly human Maxwell in a fairly quiet life, in hopes that the fairy king doesn’t come after them. She wants to start using her experiences to write fantasy novels, and maybe use her writing to work out her complicated feelings about Maxwell.
What am I willing to tell you about her rolls?
Family Structure – Amanda will be living with Maxwell. What that means, you’ll have to find out.
Number of Children – No clues as of yet
Primary Income – Author
Secondary Income – No clues as of yet
Generational Goal – No clues as of yet
Miscellaneous Fun – It’s so YOU! (Amanda’s favorite color is lime green, and Maxwell’s is either aqua or turquoise, in case that makes a difference.)
Your third heir candidate is Willow Doe, second daughter of Alaric and Madeline.
Willow is almost a clone of Madeline, but with Alaric’s eyes. She is identical to Amanda in the face. (It’s a little creepy)
Willow is:
Athletic
Genius
Hot-Headed
Disciplined
Lifetime Wish – Undecided, but probably Martial Arts Master (maybe Physical Perfection)
If she becomes heir, there will be a time skip, but everything significant will be covered in her special epistolary story, which will be out in a few days.
Plot recap: Willow was a short-tempered child who was always quick to defend her family, even when they didn’t want to be defended. She got a (not entirely undeserved) reputation for being angry, but befriended her little brother, Felix. She also made a friend of a strange, tranquil boy named Conor, who she met in the woods. When she became a teenager, Willow became enthralled with Sim Fu, which helped her channel and calm her wild temper. She also grew closer to Conor, who encouraged her to try to help her family become closer, and when that failed, promised to take her around the world as soon as they both graduated. Meanwhile, Willow remained close to Felix, and gave him girl advice. Later, she discovers that Conor is a werewolf, and he kisses her under the full moon. As close as she and Conor now are, however, she no longer feels like she can leave Felix, as she is the only family member who is willing to support him.
What’s next for her? While Willow would love to leave the country with Conor, she feels like she needs to support Felix at least until his baby is born, if not longer. She really wants to pursue her martial arts as a career, hopefully sparring on the professional circuit, but she wouldn’t mind being a trainer. For her, being able to love and support her family is most important.
What am I willing to tell you about her rolls?
Family Structure – Willow plans to live with Felix, Marissa, and their baby until they can get solidly on their feet. After that, she’ll move out by herself, and hopefully be able to join Conor in his travels.
Number of Children – No clues as of yet
Primary Income – (since martial artist isn’t an option) Professional Sports
Secondary Income – No clues as of yet
Generational Goal – No clues as of yet
Miscellaneous Fun – Fighter (this will play out mostly through sparring)
Your fourth heir candidate is Serena Doe, only daughter of Alaric Doe and Odessa Winchester.
Serena looks a lot like Alaric, but she has Odessa’s nose and hair color.
Serena is:
Friendly
Genius
Excitable
Childish
Lifetime Wish: Undecided, but probably The Fairy Tale Finder
If she becomes heir, there will be a time skip, but, like Willow, anything significant will be covered in her epistolary special.
Plot recap: Serena was first introduced as an unforeseen consequence of Alaric’s affair with Odessa Winchester. As a child, she was very friendly and couldn’t quite grasp why her parents (Madeline and Alaric) were so cold to her. She made friends with Alphonse, a somewhat standoffish boy who was keeping a secret from her. She was curious about the origin of her red hair, since it obviously didn’t come from either of the people she assumed were her parents, and that led to her approaching a strange man with the same hair color. This man turned out to be her uncle, Cedric Winchester, who told his sister about the meeting. Odessa then approached Serena when she was with Alphonse at the park. Serena and Alphonse argued about it, because Alphonse thinks it would be a bad idea to talk to Odessa. Serena agrees not to do anything until she talks to her parents about it, but secretly goes to meet with Odessa anyway. Odessa says that she just wants to get to know Serena better, and Serena, relieved, tells Alphonse about the conversation. Alphonse is angry that Serena lied to him, but Serena throws the fact that he’s been keeping secrets from her the whole time in his face. After Serena calms down, she talks to Amanda about it and decides to confront Alphonse once and for all. Before she can do that, though, Alphonse confesses his secret: he’s a witch. Serena is still trying to reconcile that with the Alphonse she knows.
What’s next for her? Serena wants some distance from Alphonse, but he’s still determined to protect her from her mother, who he doesn’t trust. Meanwhile, Serena and Odessa have been growing closer, and Odessa is starting to press Serena to enter “the family business”…
What am I willing to tell you about her rolls?
Family Structure – At the moment, Serena plans to live alone, but that could change at any time.
Number of Children – No clues as of yet
Primary Income – Serena is very close to bending to Odessa’s wishes and going into her uncle’s line of work… (you can always check the Sims Wiki if you don’t know what that is)
Secondary Income – No clues as of yet
Generational Goal – Awesome!
Miscellaneous Fun – No clues as of yet
Your fifth and final heir candidate is Felix Doe, youngest and only son of Madeline and Alaric.
Felix is a clone of Alaric, but he has his grandmother, Tara’s, green eyes.
Felix is:
Brave
Virtuoso
Lucky
Hopeless Romantic
Lifetime Wish: Undecided, but probably Rock Star
If he becomes heir, his generation will begin when Willow ages up, just after the baby is born. Everything before that will be covered in his epistolary special.
Plot recap:
Felix started out as a boy who relied on his luck and general charm to get what he wanted, including acknowledgement from Marissa, a girl he thought was the ideal. Many people commented on his general charmed life, especially his best friend, Jasmin, who was much more practical than Felix. When he got to high school, he formed a band, which became shockingly good in a very short amount of time. His band members marveled, but Felix attributed it to his almost supernaturally good luck. He also developed an even stronger crush on Marissa. When he told Jasmin about this, she discouraged him, telling him that Marissa was his exact opposite in the most important ways. Still, Felix wouldn’t be deterred, and he asked his favorite sister, Willow, for advice on how to approach Marissa. He put this advice into practice at a party and got Marissa to agree to be his girlfriend. Weeks later, though, he is sure that Marissa is going to break up with him – only to find out that she’s pregnant. So much for luck.
What’s next for him? Willow is letting Felix, Marissa, and the baby live with her until they get back on their feet. Felix is desperately trying to make his music into a career, while Marissa is drawing away from both him and their unborn baby. He’s starting to worry that Marissa might not want everything to work out as much as he does.
What am I willing to tell you about his rolls?
Family Structure – It’s going to start out with Felix, Marissa, Willow, and the baby. That all might change in the future (except Felix and the baby, they aren’t going anywhere).
Number of Children – All you know is that there will be at least one.
Primary Income – Music (Rock Star)
Secondary Income – Willow, at least, is going into Professional Sports
Generational Goal – No clues as of yet
Miscellaneous Fun – Opposites Attract/Perfect Match
And finally, a glimpse of all five heir candidates as young adults.
Well, that’s the last of the actual poll information! It’s as long as the previous two heir polls put together. But, before you vote, there’s one more thing you should see. All five kids will be getting a short, just words, epistolary style special post while this poll is up. The topics are below.
Jonah – a collection of short notes about how he and Jenny started dating
Amanda – a journal entry with her feelings about Maxwell and the strange situation they’re in
Willow – a letter to Connor detailing why she can’t come with him
Serena – emails between her and Alphonse about their relationship and Odessa
Felix – letters to the baby before he/she is born
The poll will close at 11:59 PM my time (UTC – 5). Now vote!
We’re finally done with the second generation! It’s funny, Generation 1 took a little over a month to get done, while Generation 2 took over three months. I need to pick up the slack.
In case you need reminding, we have three heir candidates.
The first-born (although I’m not sure it was ever mentioned) is Alaric Doe!
Alaric is:
Evil
Disciplined
Perfectionist
Ambitious
Charismatic
Lifetime Wish: Leader of the Free World
Plot recap: As a child, Alaric was a slightly obsessive perfectionist who was fascinated by power. He also enjoyed annoying his brother, Beckett. His first action as a teenager was to extort a promise from Beckett to support his campaign for freshman class president, not telling him that Beckett’s girlfriend, Madeline, also planned on running. He did this intentionally both to take advantage of Beckett’s popularity and to drive a wedge between Beckett and Madeline. Alaric wins the election and exchanges some cryptic words with Madeline about satisfying victories against worthy opponents. When Beckett and Madeline reconcile after the election, Alaric watches them from the kitchen window and reflects on how badly he wants to beat Beckett – who he thinks has an unfair advantage at life – at something. When he sneaks off from one of Beckett’s soccer games, he finds Madeline skating, which she is very good at, and the two of them bond over their shared frustration about being in Beckett’s shadow. After Beckett is injured, Alaric gets himself elected prom king so he can dance with Madeline, who is queen. Finally, at their graduation party, he comforts Madeline after a fight with Beckett and she kisses him. He tells her that she will have to choose between him and Beckett, because she can’t have both.
What’s next for him? Alaric plans to move out and pursue a career in politics, as his eventual goal is to become Leader of the Free World (and finally prove that he’s more successful than Beckett). He hopes to have Madeline by his side, but if she doesn’t choose him he will find another woman to be his ideal First Lady.
What am I willing to tell you about his rolls?
Family Structure – You’ll have to wait and see, but there have been hints
Number of Children – No clues as of yet
Primary Career – Politics
Secondary Career – No clues as of yet
Generational Goal – This is the one roll Alaric shares with his dad! (Perfect Careers)
Miscellaneous Fun – No clues as of yet
Your second candidate is middle child and only girl, Jade Doe!
Jade is:
Artistic
Absent-Minded
Couch Potato
Kleptomaniac
Photographer’s Eye
Lifetime Wish: Visionary
Plot recap: Jade was first introduced as a girl with self-esteem issues and sticky fingers who loved soap operas. Her best friend is her cousin Eve, who gave her a camera for her thirteenth birthday. From then on, Jade took all the pictures for their school newspaper, which is run by Jade, Eve, and their friend Marc. Shortly after she became a teenager, Jade started dating Ted, a very practical boy with a rigid moral compass. She thinks these traits are good for her, since she is slightly flighty and has a tendency to take things that don’t belong to her. Jade’s friend Marc likes her and does favors for her, but she is oblivious and determined to make things work with Ted. Jade starts to fail math because she has trouble understanding the material and is afraid to ask for help, and when her teacher is disrespectful to her, she gets frustrated and steals a paperweight off his desk. When she tells Ted about the incident (leaving out the stealing part), he takes the teacher’s side, so she calls Marc, who listens to her. When Jade goes to prom with Ted, she is disappointed by his lack of romance, but continues to try to make things work. At her graduation party, Marc confesses that he’s in love with her, but that he’s leaving town to try and get over her.
What’s next for her? Jade plans to move out with Ted, who she still thinks is the best choice for her. She wants to pursue a job in journalism, but she thinks her attention problems and poor grades in high school might stand in her way.
What am I willing to tell you about her rolls?
Family Structure – At least for now, Jade is moving in with Ted. Whether that changes in the future remains to be seen.
Number of Children – No clues as of yet
Primary Career – Maybe journalism?
Secondary Career – Ted is a firefighter
Generational Goal – No clues as of yet
Miscellaneous Fun – Let’s just say that Jade’s sticky fingers aren’t just a plot device…
Your third and final candidate is Beckett Doe!
Beckett is:
Loves the Outdoors
Easily Impressed
Over-Emotional
Hopeless Romantic
Angler
Lifetime Wish: The Zoologist
Plot recap: Beckett is the youngest triplet, who was revealed to be a soccer savant way back in chapter 10. His soccer skills made him a friend, a girl named Madeline. At his thirteenth birthday party, he makes his brother Alaric a promise to campaign for him in the class president election in exchange for Alaric’s cooperation in Beckett’s plan to ask Madeline out. His childhood friend, Danica, comes to the party to see him, but he ignores her in favor of Madeline, who agrees to go out with him. Unfortunately, Madeline is also running for class president, and she gets mad at him when he refuses to break his promise to Alaric. After the election (which she loses), she forgives him after she finds out that he made the promise so he could ask her out. Beckett is recruited to play for the Llamas on the condition that he finishes high school strong, but he is starting to wonder whether Madeline is the right person for him, especially after he has more fun studying at the library with Danica than he does partying with Madeline. Unfortunately, his soccer dreams are shattered when he breaks his kneecap on the field his senior year and loses his offer to play professionally, as well as his ability to play at all. He goes into a downward spiral and fails to finish high school, which he argues with Madeline about, but he eventually decides to stabilize what little he has left and asks Madeline to marry him, unaware that she had just kissed his brother. We haven’t heard her answer yet.
What’s next for him? Beckett is no longer sure what his life will look like, but he knows that he wants to spend it with Madeline and preferably as far from other people as possible.
What am I willing to tell you about his rolls?
Family Structure – You’ll have to wait and see…
Number of Children – No clues as of yet
Primary Income – Take a good look at Beckett’s traits, and see what you come up with
Secondary Income – No clues as of yet
Generational Goal – Living Green
Miscellaneous Fun – No clues as of yet
Have a nice little family photo!
And just for fun:
Our heir candidates as vampires! (I have no plans to make this actually happen… yet.)
A couple of logistic things:
This is not the only poll I want you to vote in! Under the link to the first poll, there is a second poll that asks you where the legacy should move next. Please vote in that, too, and keep in mind how your choices could affect the plot.
Both of these polls will close at 5:00 pm (EST or UTC-5) on May 17.
